i have a retail store. I have given the landlord my notice that i will be leaving in 30 days.

I planned on moving the store. But come to find out the store i planned on moving into the previous tenant has chosen (after verbally telling the landlord she was leaving) to sell her business and turn over her lease to the new buyer/tenant.

The main problem i have is that there had been a for rent sign in front of the new store with the owner of the building phone # for 60 days or more and the owner of the building gave me a verbal agreement that i could take the space. The owner of the builing wants my store in and this other store out. If the tentant had no plan on leaving why was she letting the owner show the place. Why didn't she take the phone number down..Does this constitutite as breaking the lease..

Your NEW store building owner can say NO to his tenant's plans to sell her store/business AND store lease to another person and he can cancel her lease and lease the space to you. The building owner has to agree to any lease assignment for her to sell her business.
