I'm 17 years old, turning 18 in 4 months. I used to live in North Carolina with my mom. I moved out in May, I don't remember the exact date I moved out, but I moved in with my stepdad in South Carolina. It is November now and I am ready to move out. I already have my GED, I've had it since I was in North Carolina. I also have a job at a hotel as a receptionist. I plan to move out and go to a community college to further my education. Is it possible for me to move out at this age in the state of South Carolina, without being considered a runaway?

You are so close to being 18 - can't you wait those few months? Until you are 18, you could be considered a runaway & your parents have the say as to where you live.

SC is one of the few states where it is actually a crime to run away from home. You will be considered a runaway until you are 18.

4 months seems like forever when your 17 but in the long run your better off to wait. You might burn bridges or ruin relationships you could want or need later.
