Is it a crime in New York State to mark "no" on an employment application if indeed you are a convicted felon? Not as concerned about being fired, want to know if it's a crime?

I doubt if it's a crime. It is a valid and legal reason to either put you in the do-not-hire pile or terminate you if it is not discovered till after you are hired.

It does not make a whit of difference if it is discovered twenty minutes or twenty years after you are hired; either way, it is still grounds for immediate termination and probably without unemployment, though that is subject to opinion.

It is also legal for the employer to tell any prospective employers why you were terminated, which will make it that much harder to get the next job

All in all, a very bad idea, whether it's technically a crime or not.

Probably not illegal but plan on being fired if you are hired, as soon as your employer finds out you lied on your application. Much of this stuff can be found online by searching through court documents.

Thanks for advise

I understand it would be immediate termination.. but at this point, I can't get a job anywhere.. so I need to take my chances.

But I don't want to take any chance of getting arrested again... never again.

What good is getting a job if you can't keep it? Do you have ANY idea how easy it is for an employer to find that information even if they aren't looking for it?

It would be STUPID to deliberately falsify your application, knowing that it can get you fired.
