Is it lawful to be fired while under medical care?

It isn't necessarily ILLEGAL The law remains silent on many things. This is yet another. An employer is always free to fire an "at will" employee, just as that "at will" employee is free to quit when they hit the lottery or inherit Aunt Bertha's estate and fortune.
 
Does FMLA apply in your case? Here is a link to the requirements, etc.:

However; even under FMLA (which is job protected leave), you can be fired/terminated if you would have been fired/terminated had you not been on FMLA leave.

How much time have you missed currently or in the past 12 months for this or other medical reasons?
 
PS - Are you off work or just currently under medical care but working - I assume off work but we need more details as cbg noted.
