Can I sue my former employer for breach of contract?
Basically I interned for a company which signed a contract with myself and my school that I would be performing certain job tasks outlined on my job descriptions.
(This is a marketing internship and I was supposed to perform marketing tasks such as managing the social media pages and the email alerts when I was told to work on the emails and social media pages by my supervisor once she gets permission by the vice president to start, but after months of consistently asking when I can start they kept telling me to perform the administrative tasks while I wait for permission)
Within the job description it did say that I would be performing administrative tasks additional to my responsibilities within my job description which I did not mind as long as I still performed the jobs that I was contracted to do because it is part of a learning experience through my school's curriculum.
However, my job only had me performing administrative tasks such as printing papers, copying papers, cleaning, creating simple excel documents, assembling chairs, and lifting boxes (I even got hurt and was told to fill out workers' comp. but I didnt because I didnt feel it was serious) but never any of the tasks that were within my contract.

Long story short, I informed HR about the fact that I have not been performing any of the tasks within my job description, and they arranged a meeting with my supervisor and the VP, I basically said that I have no problem with the company as long as the start to give me some of the tasks that I am supposed to perform within my job descriptions (remember this is all through my school for a learning experience.) The VP said no that I have to earn it. Which was not said in the contract. That is not how my school's system works. We are automatically given these tasks because we are supposed to learn them, not earn them. Either way I did several things to show them that I was ready such as research, reports, ect. Finally, my supervisor and VP admitted when I questioned them about why I never started things like the emails of social media pages--they said "well the nature of the position changed" My question is why didn't they tell me that back in April when I started (The internship is supposed to end in September) I felt like they knew this all along and they just tried to cover it up by having me perform only administrative tasks. Now I have no material or experience to go back to school with. Therefore, I resigned from my position two weeks ago. I already informed my school about it. My school is disappointed about it and told me to move on. But I said no, because my parents pay 40 + thousand a year to go to this school simply for this program. I feel like I was deceived. Can I sue my former intern employer for breach of contract? They didn't fulfil their end of the deal, they were supposed to have me perform those job tasks so I have a learning experience. They were only supposed to give me manual tasks sometimes, not all the time. I didnt get a learning experience. I feel like my parents wasted money on tuition.
SORRY ITS LONG!
THANKS!!

You can sue anyone.
The better question would be, do you have a cause of legal action upon which you can base your suit?

In your case, no.
Why?
When you QUIT, you breached the contract.
Had you NOT VOLUNTARILY QUIT, maybe.
But, even then, what were your damages?
A lawsuit requesting a monetary remedy must show (and prove) damages.
I don't see any damages.
No, the employer didn't receive any of that 40K you shell out for tuition, irrelevant.
If you could sue for the return of tuition, you'd have to sue your university.
Give this one up, you breached, no one else.
