Yesterday my company had to fire an employee. He was dismissed and then escorted to the door. I was in the parking lot as he was walking out unsupervised. This man stopped and spoke to the security guard for a few minutes and then proceeded to walk towards me screaming obscenities at me. I looked at the security guard to see if he was going to do anything and he just stood there smoking his cigarette. As the man started to walk towards me I was scared and threatened. I started to yell back. He threatened to have his girlfriend cause me bodily harm. I called another employee that was in the building and asked for help since the security guard was doing nothing but standing there smoking. Other employees started to come out of the building as the man got into his car and the security guard decided at that point to start chastising me for getting into an argument with the employee that had just been terminated. Now my direct supervisor continues to chastise me about getting into the argument that was not instigated by me. I am very uncomfortable with this situation and do not feel that I should have to be made to feel bad or at fault for this. My supervisor has not hesitated to express me that the company feels that I was in the wrong. I feel that this all could have been avoided had the supervisors that fired this man walked him out to his car and ensure that he left the property and had the security guard did the same. Instead they let him walk out unsupervised and the security guard stood there and let the man rant and rave to him and then reflect his anger on me and did do as much as put his cigarette down to stop this man from accosting me. Do I really have to continue to be chastised about this? I really do not feel that this was my fault. I was off of the clock and attempting to go home and the negligence of this company's management team and security team caused me to be in a threatening situation. Can anyone please give me some insight? Thanks
