I was laid off Sept 30 from a residential construction company in Texas.
The company told me that it was not due to preformance but the economy.
My position was filled the same day by an individual half my age, transferred from another department.
I was told that I must sign a release to age discrimation act; in order to receive my 4 weeks compensation.
The release states that I have 7 days to revolk the release and if I do revolk that I have to repay compensation.
I believe I've been unfairly let go of my job and someone younger for less pay has stepped in.
Please advise.

The following presumes that you are over 40.

If you were let go so they could hire someone younger, that is illegal. If you were let go so they could hire someone cheaper, that is not illegal.

If you are under 40, then it was legal anyway.

You will have to show the agreement to a Texas attorney to find out if it is legally enforceable and to ensure that your rights are protected.
