Hi,

I was hired on as a contractor for Company Nov 2007 for $16 per hour. After 6 months and my responsibilities tripling, I asked my boss if I would be hired on permanently. I filled out an application for permanent hire and last friday received a call from Human Resources congratulating me and offering me a permanent position for $19 per hour. I told HR that was lower than I expected and what alternative do I have. She said to talk with my boss. On tuesday I was called in my bosses office and was on a conference call with her boss in CA. I stated my concerns, and thought I was worth more than $19 per hour (I actually would of taken a pay loss due to no overtime pay as a permanent employee but time and 1/2 or $24 per hour as a Contractor). I asked if I could stay a contractor until I proved myself for a higher paying position and they said no and told me I can stay on for 2 weeks and train a new position to do my job. I declined and turned in my badge. Do I have any recourse?

First off it was unwise to use what I presume is your real name and name the company! I urge you to change both! No you declined the job what action do you think you can take!?

They offered you a job. You turned it down. They were under no legal obligation to pay you what you thought the job was worth.

No, you have no legal recourse. You can accept the job at the rate they offer, you can attempt to negotiate with them (though they have no legal obligation to do so and can legally refuse) or you can turn down the job. What you cannot do is force them to hire you at the rate you want.
