I applied for a position with a large company and after the second interview, numerous e-mail contacts and several online applications I received a call from a recruiter, she stated that she was calling because as I was aware, time was short and I would be starting as temp to hire, I said yes the hiring manager explained that, She asked when I come in to fill out paper work, I asked about Thursday so I could have a day to give my current employer at least a days notice, and I was very excited about this new position, I was told to bring appropriate ID for Filing an I-9 form and I would be paid by the hour based on my starting salary until my background check was completed, I said fine will I start right away, I was told (on Tuesday) that I was to fill out yet another form, come in to get details and fill out paperwork Thursday and Friday would be my first day at Corporate as I would be going out of town on Sunday for training. I was then called at 3:00 on wednesday and told the hiring manager changed her mind, my references came back "bad". This was very demeaning and I have already left my former employer. All of this seemed to come about after I filled out the information requested about my age gender and race, as it had not come up prior to this, and I am lucky to look younger than I am. I really feel this is discrimination, is there any merit to this?

Are they under any obligation to find a position, as they verbally communicated an offer knowing I would leave my current job and they refuse check my references verbally, it was done electronically and there is a margin of error. I am now without a job and unsure of how to go forward and feed my family.
