I have a small (less than $200) outstanding balance at my dentist's office. I had forgotten about it so because 90 days or more had passed, the "office coordinator" called me at home and on my cell. She left messages on both phones detailing the outstanding balance and how there would now be finance charges and a payment needed to be made in 7 days etc. I'm not sure if any of that violates any HIPAA privacy laws but what bothered me the most was on the same day she also sent me an email (to an email address I never gave them) with the details of my account balance from her own personal email address! I know HIPAA laws include dentists and financial information so surely this must be a pretty serious HIPAA violation?
