Pet Deposit

Last August my roommate (Ed) and I moved into an apartment together. We split the $250 security deposit, but I was responsible for the $400 pet deposit and paid it as such. Recently we received an invoice for damages done to the apartment. The invoice lists the deposits separately. Ed has decided that he wants to use half of the pet deposit to ease the costs due to the apartment. I don't feel he has a right to the pet deposit that I paid. What are my legal options if he refuses to pay his portion of the invoice?

First explain to Ed that the money is for a pet deposit- meaning potential damage caused by a pet, nothing else.
You and Ed can either mutually agree on how else to handle the fees due, or you can take the matter to small claims court. However, in order to sue Ed you will have to have some sort of damages, meaning that either your pet deposit has wrongfully been applied or you have paid the amount due in full and seek compensation.
