Hello,

I have recently resigned from my previous employer. However, I am still receiving direct deposit payments for my full salary. I understand how payment cycles work, and I am past the point of where I should have received my last paycheck.

What obligation do I have to tell my previous employer that this is occurring? What rights do they have to ask for the money back?

Thanks.

You're receiving money that you haven't earned.
It doesn't require my law degree to answer what should be done if you receive something you're not entitled to receive.
The employer can sue you, or even seek your prosecution.
No need to spell this out, you know the repercussions, otherwise you'd not be seeking approval to steal.

The money is theirs.

Return it, or face possible legal action.

They have EVERY right to ask for the money back.

The sooner you notify them, the less you will have to repay.

They have every right to ask for the money back. You need to be proactive & notify them of the direct deposit. Why would you think you could keep money you did not work for/earn?
