Should I contact legal council?

I am a male, age 50 who was laid off in early 2008 after giving 23+ years to the company.
I have never had a bad review, nor have I been written up for any violation of company policy.
The individual who assumed managing my territory is younger, paid less, and has been on the job for fewer years.
Travel is needed to manage the territory and this was no issue.
I feel that the company retaliated against me because I had surgury in late 2007 and was out on medical leave for 6 weeks; my boss thought that I would only be out for 2 weeks and questioned my extended absence.
I live in an at will state (AL), but I feel that the company (TX based) wanted to dump me because of my age and salary.
Should I find a good attorney?

Terming you because of your age is illegal. Terming you because of your salary is not.

It couldn't hurt to discuss the issue with local counsel and see what he says.
