I have been with employer for 8 years and have always had above average reviews. In addition, in 2007 based on solid reviews/performance was selected and graduated from Company's internal Management Development Program. First review in new department was shockingly bad. Supervisor had comments that were very subjective and derogatory "Spins wheels..."; other comments that singled me out and penalized me unfairly from the rest of department. I responded to the review in writing on a point by point basis and did not sign review. In addition, I questioned why these observations had never been communicated to me during mid year so remedies could have been applied.
It seems apparent now that a paper trail has been created through the emails that are being sent to me and a 2 hour meeting scheduled where the meeting was quite genteel and nothing substantive was discussed. Yet subsequently, I received a "Final warning for unsatisfactory performance" that basically said I could be terminated immediately if no improvement.
My bottom line question is what would work better for me, resigning or suffering through and being fired. Additionally, Is there any legal recourse for being singled out by a supervisor for cruel and unfair treatment? I live in New Jersey.
