I am trying to put a Power Of Attorney in place so that I can manage my elderly fathers' finances. On January 14th I submitted my documents to the bank in a face-to-face meeting at one of their branches. My father received a letter from them on the 11th that they couldn't accept the POA without an "original notary seal". I am not going to send them my original. I thought that the whole point of the POA was to confirm that, on a specific date, (the original notarized date) that the principal (my father) was of sound mind and capable of agreeing to the POA. To have it notarized again (in order to have an "original" to send to them) seems like it is defeating the purpose of the POA because, at some point, he won't be of sound mind and capable of agreeing to it. I would then have to have a doctor confirm that the POA was necessary.
