Nibi, the "Diva" Beaver gets Governors Pardon

I'm glad that Nibi, the Diva beaver gets a governor's pardon for all those that care about the story you posted.

"It doesn't give her much time... to figure out how to build a lodge for the first time, how to build dams for the first time, how to store all of her food before winter sets in," she said.

I always get a chuckle when humans anthropomorphize about animals. It means giving animals human characteristics like learning or behavior. Beavers are low on the evolutionary food chain. They are rodents like rats and mice and are incredibly prolific. They cause tens of millions in properties damage each year. The USDA kills tens of thousands of beavers each year.

Does a songbird have to learn it's song or does a beaver have to learn how to build a dam? No, they don't. That is innate behavior. It is genetically coded into them. Interacting with humans is something they can learn which is what happened with Nibi. She is very lucky indeed.
