Unclaimed Property not sure what to do

My mother died some time ago but I found she left some money in a bank and it's listed under Unclaimed Property in Florida. I can get her death certificate and her birth date, but little to nothing else about her. She did not leave a will. It's not that much money, about $700. So it may not be worth it to go to a lawyer. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I assume it's listed at some sort of government website and that that website has instructions about how to submit a claim. That being the case, my only suggestion is that you follow those instructions. What other suggestions might someone have?

It absolutely would not be worthwhile to do so.

Well, we never thought of keeping records, they didn't have much, but I can get my birth certificate and hoping her name is on it. Not sure if the government will accept that as my right to claim it. It will cost me a few dollars to get the birth certificate so I can afford to lose a few $. I'll work on it and let you know, but it will take me time since I have a lot of things to do,

The information you're being provided is your best approach.

I have a friend who has a company that does this professionally for larger amounts and where the issues are more complicated. I've often assisted them as an attorney with logistics. They only handle cases that are much larger than a few hundred dollars, since it consumes more time than it is worth for them to pursue as they typically obtain a percentage of the amount.

Thank you to those who replied. I will have to apply for the appropriate proofs although I never really thought about keeping records of my mother or my father. And now I'll have to look for my birth certificate or order it and hope the state finds the information acceptable. I see there are those who do this for a percentage. I didn't realize the complications this might entail. So thanks.
