Probably no legal action. However, some states have a state appeal process if your appeal with ins. co. is denied. You can check with your state ins. commission to see if there is one in your state.

Over age 18 & two years ago, I don't know if the police will do anything. It could depend on the type of mental abuse. You are certainly free to report it to the police.

Agree with taking what you have to an employment or contract attorney for review & advice. You said getting fired would not be bad for you. In my own opinion, it is not a good idea to do something to deliberately get fired. Depending on the reason, sometime in the future, it could come back...

They might just be trying to scare you into paying on the debt by saying your wages will be garnished. Possibly the SOL has elapsed. Anyway; before they can garnish wages, they have to go to court & get a judgment against you. We don't really have enough info here to give you a better/more...
