    Summer vacation

I'm not saying this is what you did, but I have seen parents who have very specifically and intentionally gotten their child involved in activities that they knew would interfere with the other parent's visitation/custody time, and then argued that whatever activity they'd chose to involve them...

    Question About Rite Aid Scam

I'd definitely be worried about identity theft if I were you, particularly since you say you had issues filing your taxes because they said somebody else had your Social Security Number. If someone else is indeed using your identity, there are plenty of other things they may be doing that can...

    FLSA reclassified

I agree with txls that the upcoming salary level changes are probably what prompted the change to non-exempt. We have a number of formerly exempt employees who will be changed to non-exempt once the changes go into effect, for the simple reason that their salaries no longer meet the criteria for...

Garnishment just curious wage garnishment law

I used to work with garnishments of bank accounts, and the rule was that if we received a garnishment we had to take the funds from any account that was listed under that person's Social Security Number as the primary accountholder. As others have said, once the money is in your account, it's...

    Never Married Non-Custodial Parent

It almost sounds like your husband's original lawyer was in cahoots with the mother! I'm glad your husband is seeking new counsel, hopefully he'll get some better guidance.

    Never Married Non-Custodial Parent

I'm curious why your husband's lawyer would even tell him to continue to pay the legal father of the girl $300/month as a "good faith gesture", and then also tell him he's on the hook for 1/3 of the college tuition costs. Your husband may be the biological father, but the man listed on her...

    Never Married Non-Custodial Parent

So someone other than your husband is actually named as her father on her birth certificate? And you say that your husband is paying child support to him, even though there's nothing from the court ordering him to pay it? If the child support to the mother was dismissed and no court order...

Mental Health Thread #10-Fall is Coming

That doctor sounds like an absolute jerk.

    Need help

If you were never married and there's never been a DNA test done to establish that he is in fact your daughter's father, then it seems to me that he doesn't have any right to keep her from you.

Am I going to be arrested at jury duty

We have all heard of cases where innocent people have been arrested for crimes they didn't commit. But most of us don't go around worrying that we are going to be wrongfully arrested, which is why I think other posters have been asking you some of the questions they have. Nobody is trying to...

Someone stole my identity and took all my money from the bank

I've worked in banking for 35 years and generally the rule is that ANY owner of a joint account can close the account without the other owner's signature; however, one owner cannot remove another owner from the account without that person's permission.

Someone stole my identity and took all my money from the bank

By definition, a joint account is one that is held by more than one person, with each individual having the rights to deposit and withdraw funds. Unless you had the account set up in some way that it required both signers to withdraw funds (which is unusual in the case of personal accounts) any...

Mental Health Thread #10-Fall is Coming

That's perfect! We moved into our new home nearly a year ago and my husband has apparently decided that the kitchen is solely my domain because he will rarely do anything in there, including figuring out where things are kept. I just sit back and laugh when I hear him opening darned near every...

Mental Health Thread #10-Fall is Coming

Wow, ferretrick, that's pretty bad. I have a colleague whose desk is always spotless, but when she started cleaning her office the other day I realized why...there were hundreds of files and a lot of other stuff piled up on the floor under the desk. I asked about it when I saw her hauling about...

Thanks, ElleMD, that was exactly my point.

    Maternity leave question

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) states that "pregnant employees must be permitted to work as long as they are able to perform their jobs". It seems to me that indicates that as long as you are able to do the job, you should be allowed to work, even if it is right up until you go into labor.

    Billed for Roto-Rooter

I've been told by plumbers that you shouldn't flush baby wipes even if they say they are "flushable". They aren't designed to break down in water the way toilet paper does and can definitely cause blockages and backups.

Store asking me to hand over my backpack before entering

Easy answer: get a small "crossbody" purse you can put your wallet, etc. in. You can carry it over your shoulder so your hands will be free to shop. Leave the backpack at home. Don't carry your SS card with you at all times...there is no reason to and common sense says it isn't a good idea. I...

Did i mess up on my marriage lisence

What Army Judge said. You can begin using your husband's last name immediately upon getting married, and to change it legally on documents like your driver's license, you'll just present the marriage certificate to the DMV and that's all the proof they need that you are legally married &...

Did i mess up on my marriage lisence

I see you are in the state of Alaska, and so am I, so I just looked at a couple of State of Alaska marriage certificates that I've gotten from recently-married employees. They always list the bride's maiden name on the certificate, rather than her new married name, so you are fine.
