    There may be some kind of narcotics task force in your area. you could call your police and ask them. Then you could tell the narcotics officer what you want to do, and if they're excited about it, they'll probably agree to talk with the prosecutor about reducing your sentence. . .

    yah, problem is if that the relative is an expert in a different field. Like family law. Property law, etc., and has no clue about criminal law. In that case, I'd "roll the dice" and get a public defender. Some are good. Some are ##$ awful.

    Also, sometimes DUIs have a time limit. Like, if you haven't had one in 7 years, then it'll be charged as your first. ETc. many States are getting harsher on this, though. . . and it does vary greatly by State.

    the average murderer is not out in 5 years. . . You'll be sentenced to a huge amount of community service, at the least, and they'll want some kind of plan as to how you can repay what you stole.
