Hi. Let me preface this by stating how much I hate myself right now and what an idiot I am. I am bipolar and have been suffering from depression and became addicted to stealing from stores. I have now finally learned my lesson and am overcome with worry and anxiety over what will happen to me. I live in Suffolk County on Long Island. I was caught stealing about $80 worth of merchandise at Home Depot in July 2010. The cops came and wrote me out a ticket. I had a court date in September but my name wasn't on the board when I got there. I was told I would receive a letter in the mail with my new court date. Stupidly, I stole again at Walmart in October 2010. The merchandise was worth about $80-$90. My court date is in January. I also just received a letter in the mail for my new court date from my 1st incident. It is in February. I am so very scared that I will get a jail sentence! When I go to court in January, will the judge be making his/her decision based on both incidents? Will I most likely have jail time? Please let me know what you know from experience. Thank you.

No, your cases will likely be handled separately, however at the second one your prior conviction may come into play for sentencing.
You need to knock this off fast.
I don't know about NY, but here in CA a person with prior petty theft convictions can be charged with a felony for subsequent petty theft offenses.

You should retain an attorney. If you can't afford one, ask the court to appoint one to represent you.

You should only speak with your attorney about this, no one else except your psychiatrist or psychologist.

You need help. Get it.
