Hi Guys,

I am new to this site and i have been looking for help about my situation. This is how the story go, in August of 2008 I was fired from Store name( IL) for Retail Theft of a gift card. I was taken into the office by the LP guy and asked to sign a confession, but i never confessed i wrote and i quote " I take full responsibility for the gift cards that came up missing on my register" i even paid the money back the very next day. I really felt terrible after it was all said and done like i let my manager down and myself. I was told that if i did so that no further actions will be taken, as far as the police being called. I know that I am in the NRT datatbase, because when i applied for another job at Kmart they offered me the job on the spot and i had to wait for a Background check. About a week later i received a call from Kmart saying that they can not offer me the job anymore because something was on my background and being that i have never been arrested a day in my life it had to be BRU. I have been searching for a job since the date above and been offered jobs on the spot , but when i get that call saying they would have to take the offer away from me because of my background its really discouraging and it hurts. This is the reason why i have been depressed for the past 3 years. I know what i did was wrong and i don't expect any sympathy from employers , but if i was given the chance to prove to them that it would never, ever and i do mean NEVER, EVER happen again and that i have changed they would see. So the question is How long do i stay in the NRTD? and What other jobs i can work that wouldn't check that? and also How far does some retail stores go back to check? Any advice is very much Welcomed.

Thanks in Advance

Ps. Sorry for the Long message

You are assuming its the database issue. Not all stores subscribe to these databases so there is a chance at least one place that turned you down is not a subscriber. If you are indeed in the database it is basically a waste of time applying for work in retail. Your info will remain in the database around 7 years. You might contact one of these places that turned you away after offer to ask what info they saw. it might be a mistake and needs to be cleared up. Until you know exactly what was on background check there isnt much you can do or we can suggest

I know its the gift cards because after a week i received a letter from NRTD and that was on there .... Thanks for replying sir

That is what you need to find out. since on one has said it was this issues and odds are one or more may not be subscribers to database its possible there is somethng on your background that is either a mistake or something you were unaware of.
