Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft 5 counts of petty larceny

I was caught stealing money over the course of a few months and was given an appearance ticket and charged with 5 counts of petty larceny. I agreed to immediately pay back my full restitution of $2800. Can I get the charges dropped if I pay it back before court? Also, just 4 months ago I completed probation for DWI. What is going to happen to me?

First of all, for everyone out there, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE obey all laws.

Thinking about things before doing anything, is the best thing you can do to avoid legal problems.

You should always discuss any criminal charges with a lawyer before saying anything.

That recent probation you completed could create trouble for you on this charge, plus the fact that you chose to blab, rather than remain silent.

All you can do now is stay out of more trouble, appear in court when directed, be attired in business clothing, listen to the instructions the bailiff will give everyone in court, always answer "Yes, Your honor", "No, Your Honor", or "I don't know, Your Honor"; when addressing the judge.

In court, plead NOT GUILTY and ask the court to appoint you a public defender (if your finances are weak), or request time to hire your own lawyer (or hire your lawyer in advance of court).

No one can predict what will happen, other than saying you'll get a few months of jail time, probation, or you'll get acquitted at trial.
