First off, I will say that I've realized what a greedy fool I was being and what poor judgement I had used and I am never going to return to that store, or shoplift/self-discount again. I feel so ashamed.

Today, I took a sale sticker off of one pair of shorts' tag and put it on the one I wanted, to knock it down by $10. I had done this a few times before after being introduced to the idea by an acquaintance at school. He made it seem like not a big deal and I was enchanted by the idea, because it seemed so easy. I did it a few times, knocking off $2 here, $5 there. I just changed the stickers in the dressing room and walked up to pay for the item.

It went without a hitch until today, when the cashier paused after ringing up the pair of shorts and said that something was wrong and it wasn't going through right. I was immediately sick to my stomach. I played it cool and told her after a few moments of her trying to work it out that if it was going to be a hassle that it wasn't all that important because I was late to pick up my little sister.'

I don't know if she realized what had happened, or if anyone there will. And I don't know if I am the first person they will suspect if suspicions do arise. There is no way they can prove it was I who changed the sticker. I do know for sure that I will not be going back to that store, and that I will not be stealing or self-discounting anything ever again. It is not worth the risk.

First off there are many ways they can prove you changed sticker. Second bringing the item for purchase can be used as proof of switch. Your prior purchase history can be researched and shown you are a habitual thief and this could result in felony charges! I agree do not go back to store and call this lesson learned

How can they prove I was the one who changed it? How can they research my purchase history if they didn't even charge me for the item?

I don't think they are going to sit through hours and hours of surveillance to find me. I am not worth that. I have learned my lesson, though, and I will not be back.

Where I am not disagreeing it still could happen as part of a shrinkage investigation. In short yes stay out of that store for a long while
