Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft A friend got caught shoplifting

A friend got caught shoplifting in CA. The POlice were not called and the LP officers made her sign 2 forms one of them was that she was banned from the store for 12 months. Another form was a list of the items they recovered from her and it said something else too. She was too scared to read it.
The LP officers said that they were sending the forms to the corporate office and that she should expect a fine .
She is worried to death whether the store can press criminal charges against her at a later date.

The answer is yes they have until the statute of limitations runs out to file those charges. However that is very unlikely if she pays the fine she will get from the Stores Lawyers

One to two years. Long as she pays the Civil Demand the store has nothing to gain by filing a criminal report. This is not a guarantee of course.
