the past year I was running a horse boarding stable. In August I received notice from the landlords that they were wanting to put up the farm for sale. Therefore I was forced to give my boarders 30 days notice. I also had a horse up from down south which was supposed to be a "free lease" situation, there was talk of a contract and unedited contract was sent between the two of us, however no contracts were signed. I tried contacting the "owner" to inform her of the situation but did not get ahold of her in time. Therefore I decided to look for a home for this horse that seemed to have been left on my property. I then decided to sell the horse for 500$, basically the cost of keeping it on the property for the summer. Now, I realize that this was a bad decision, as the owner got wind that the barn had shut down and she got in contact with the Police, who then got in contact with me and told me to get the horse returned or else I would be charged with horse theft. I contacted the "new" owners and explained to them the situation, eventually they were told by the Police to take back the money I was offering them or else they would be out of a horse and money. So, I paid them back and called the original owner who then came and picked up the horse. I apologized to everyone and did my best to rectify the situation.
Then this week, I received an email from the owner of the horse, who said she has "talked to people in the area" and feels I am not truly sorry and am only worried what will happen to me. She basically told me that she will be sending me instructions on how to "prove" to her that I am TRULY sorry! Her first instruction to me was to pay a bill at the feed store. (I would have paid the bill, however I had to pay back the people I sold the horse too...and I am also considering filing for Bankruptcy with the business.) She said if I do not do these things she has told me to do, then she will change her direction towards me on this whole situation-probably meaning to charge me.?!!
So, my questions to you-now that the horse is returned, I have paid back the money, can I still get charged?? And what would be the charge/sentencing?? I don't really know for what charge, as I did everything to clear the situation. I just don't want her thinking she can bully me into doing things and my financial matters is none of her business. If you could let me know about this, as I truly don't want to get arrested, nor have a criminal record! I am a young girl, early 20's with no record.
I know what I did was somewhat wrong and I appreciate any advice/opinions you can give me!
