i was in a car accident 2 weeks ago and was taken to the hospital. i have a moderate head injury, broken arm and ribs, and other injuries to my heda and face.

i dont remember the accident, but the police said it was 100% not my fault

i have NO idea what to do now...
do i contact a lawyer?
do i contact my insurance company?
do i try and get a police report?
do i try and find my car?
do i just wait until someone contacts me?

i dont even know where my car is. ( i live alone in a new state) i have to take taxis to my doctors appointments, etc becasue i cant medically drive yet

i need my brain to work 100% becaseu i am a educator (teacher). Right now i couldnt function in the classroom because of the problems i am having with the head injury

my car is totaled. will the driver have to pay for my medical bills and a replacement car?

what steps should i be taking?

thanks

Hopefully the other driver had insurance.
You should first contact your own insurance company and make sure they have the information they need. If you are missing information yourself, then contact the agency that did the accident report. They will be able to tell you where your car is too.

Then... once you have all the information you can possibly get from both the police and your own insurance company.... contact a personal injury attorney.

Your attorney will work with your insurance company, and the two of them will be in touch with the other insurance company... things will get worked out and you will have a minimum number of things to worry about.

Yes, you should definitely be contacting an attorney. If you'd like someone local in New Jersey, we'll be glad to send you to one. Try our case review and someone will be glad to get back to you. They will be able to help pull reports and preserve your case. While people can do this themselves, typically they are not aware of all the reports they can take and also the potential amount their claim may be worth, the leverage of being an individual versus a law firm with sophistication in these matters, etc. I don't think it's worth the trade off for the amount that the firm may get if it wins (a "contingency" fee.) Best of luck and I hope you're okay!
