I recently quit my retail job to pursue another opportunity. I was an assistant manager and worked very hard at my job. In the short 9 months of my employment with this company I had been through 2 store managers, neither of whom I ever really trusted. This is probably one of the reasons I disliked the job so much. Shortly before I left I was informed there was a Loss Prevention investigation being performed on a sales associate. He was said to have been doing faulty returns. Three days ago, which was a week after my last day at this job, I received a message from the company's corporate loss prevention manager stating I needed to meet with him by the end of the week for my input or that he would take the matter further. Having NO idea what he was talking about, I tried numerous times to get ahold of him and played a long game of phone message tag. Assuming that he wanted to talk to me about the sales assoc. that was being investigated, I informed him that I no longer worked for the company and wasn't sure of how I could be of help. Then he started accusing me of stealing money through cash returns! I am very confused at what is going on within the store and who is not telling the truth but I wanted to know what my options are. First of all I am innocent. The LP manager claims to haev "proof" of my acts of theft but will not state what his information is. I know I can get a lawyer and go to court but that could be very pricey and I dont know if any documents were forged to implicate me. Also, there is the retail database for internal theft acts, which might incriminate me in my new job. PLEASE HELP!

That is why getting a lawyer is essential to your case. It will be money well spent.
