My sister got accused of shoplifting at a store in TN. She is 22 yrs old, very smart and she is in college studying nursing. She is very depressed right now and I really need to find whatever I can to help her out, so please help me help her. She walked in the store, picked some socks on clearance, went to try on some boots and she said she kept putting the socks down then forget it couple times so she decided to just drop it in her bag (open bag). She didn't like any of the boots and so she got up and leave. The loss prevention guy stopped her at the door and called the cops, got arrested and we bailed her out later that day. My question is what can she do to not have this on her record because they do background checks before she goes to her clinicals and stuff. If she plead NOT guilty while the video shows that she put the stuff in her bag will that hurt her more? It is her first offense, what is the least punishment could she get?
Thank you all in advance

Its odd that she would need to be bailed out of jail over a pair of socks! What was total value of what she took? She needs to find a criminal defense Attorney and discuss her options. If available Diversion is option that would best help her. She can ask her Attorney about this when they talk

She didn't have an Id with her so the store people told her that they had to call the cops for that and they also found some underwear by the dressing room that they claimed they saw her picked them up and they were found them with no tags but NOT in her bag. The total came up to $145 but just the socks was $12.99 it was a bundle of six pair.

Be sure to come back and tell us how things went . Also if we were any help at all be sure to post something in our section called "testimonials"
