I was accused of shoplifting almost a month ago. I was at at Store name; and as I was walking out, the personnel stopped me for having material from the store in my bag with purchase from another store. I was taken to the basement; the material was retrieved, I paid the fine of $350 with my credit card there and then and was asked not to return to any Store name for 2 years. They did not mention anything about further proceedings. When I asked if this information would be released to anyone else, they said it was completely confidential. I know I did not steal; and I think that stuff was slipped into my bag when I was looking through the garments, why anyone would do this is beyong me. but all this is beside the point.
My questions:
- I was told this information is completely confidential. It has been almost a month. How long before the statute of limitations runs out in Massachusetts?
- What is the usual time frame for receiving a letter regarding trial in court etc after an incident like this?
- Is Store name related to Store name in anyway? I remember there was some history between the two. Does me being barred from Store name mean that I cannot go to Store name?
