Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft accused of stealing

i am working at retail store for quite sometimes 12 yrs to be exact,,, one day when i was working ,, i decided to get some change i took , 40.00 dollars my boss said dont need to much quarters,, so i went back to my register returned the money including the 20 dollar bill,, 30 minutes past , my boss came and said i needed in the security room,,, they showed me video taking the 40 dollars and putting 2 rolls quarters back,, they said they didnt see the 20 dollar ,but i put in there,,now they charge me of stealing,, the security and my boss count my register and nothin is missing, they all there,,, what are my chances here,, they dont see it in video i pocketed the 20 dollar , but they didnt see it in video that i put the 20 dollar back also,,,, what am i gonna do?,,, i dont wanna loose my job ,, im 58 yr old , i never get in trouble except minor one,,,,, i just want my job back,,, what should i do,,, will i get fired?,, is it time for me to see the lawyer soon?,,, please help

There are two answers as they involve seperate issues

Since your register was not short its unlikely criminal charges can be filed or DA would even take case.

49 of the 50 states are "at will". This means you can be fired at anytime with or without warning. The exception would be if the firing violated law, cba or an existing employee contract
