I am urgently seeking some advice which I believe is time sensitive. I think I am being investigated for elder financial abuse of my aunt in Connecticut. She had given authorization to utilize her credit card and bank accounts to support myself while I am awaiting my disability hearing. She had told me she had completed paperwork at the bank giving me access and signing authority, however i recently found out that was not the case. She also gave me permission to apply for credit for her to utilize for travel and setup for her care as she is getting to a point where she needs assistance and I am setting up a plan of support and services for her. She is adamant that she freely offer me the assistance without and influence by me. However I believe the bank reported her to social services as a investigator was out to visit her and she has been contacted by a behavioral modification specialist from the department of developmental services. First off I am afraid that are going to try and take her rights away which I feel she is not at the point yet for that to happen. Secondly I don't want to end up in jail for this as I have not done anything to exploit her or put her well being in jeopardy. I now have durable financial power of attorney from her as well as two affidavits stating I had her authorization for the transactions and actions I have taken and it was done with her knowledge and I did not intimidate, coerce, or influence her in anyway. I have been in contact with her grandson and son and explained everything going on. I am not sure how to proceed, I have sent the above mentioned documents to the banks and other institutions that noticed suspicious activity to show there was nothing illicit happening. I am looking into moving to Connecticut or having come here to Florida so I can be with her and assist her. I wrote a letter which I have attached for social services to try and explain the situation. I also wrote up everything I have done and am doing to provide the proper support and care for my aunt which have shared with her family. Both of these documents and the other attached legal documents have been sent to the social services investigator but she has not responded or returned numerous phone calls. Please advise as to how I should proceed at this point to protect not only myself but my aunt as well. In addition i cannot find an attorney to help me of the several i have contacted none have returned my calls or emails dont know if is cause of the negative stigma related to these charges. I dont feel ive done anything wrong and neither does my aunt. Any help or assistance is greatly appreciated.
