advice needed, blackmail?

my so called best friend of 20 years has decided to betray my trust and is threatening to reveal to my partner something about my past which happened over 10 years ago, i cannot come clean to my partner as he is not the forgiving type and im afraid it would turn very violent, i also have 4 boys with him and this would jepordise them too.

i have tried to reason with her to no avail, is there anything legal i can do to stop her from ruining my family and possibly getting me hurt.

any advice would be appreciated

What do you think you can do? Unless she is asking for something of value in return for your silence, it's not blackmail, so you cannot have the police intervene. And I have never heard of a court order restraining someone from talking.

So, you may be out of luck here.

If your partner can be so violent, why on Earth do you stay with him?
