Can someone please tell me what a Order of Court "Alternative Service Order" is please

Could you provide more information? I'm guessing this means that service could not be performed in a certain fashion as prescribed, e.g. you must have someone personally serve a summons, so there is a request and order that an alternative method should/can be used, e.g. nail a copy to the door of the listed address of the party/individual and mailing.
