I was arrested 3 months ago for minor possession of Marijuana. I am a minor, and I live in South Carolina. When i was arrested, it was simply for being with one of my friends who had Marijuana in his glove box. I recently received papers in the mail telling me I'm going to have an arbitrator. This is also my first time being arrested. What kind of sentence am I looking at?

If you can give me some advice, I would highly appreciate it!

Thanks.

So the marijuana was in the glove box.... did your friend or anyone else in the car claim it as their own?
Were you the passenger in front of the glove box?
This can work two ways.... either everyone in the car gets charged with possession and ownership gets sorted out in court, or the driver of the car gets charged with possession since the driver is responsible for everything in the car. I am assuming that your friend was also written up for the same charge?
The consequence really depends on how your state statutes handle the situation.... but honestly, I think you have nothing to worry about unless you have said something or the police have other evidence that the marijuana is yours. So long as they found it in the glove box, possession should ultimately be pinned on the driver if nobody else speaks up for it.
Let an attorney work things out for you. If there is nothing more to this, and you haven't given any incriminating statements, then you should probably come out clean.

I was the only other passenger in the car, and the glove box was in front of me. The driver did not claim that it was his, stating: "If you find anything in the car, it isnt mine." His trial was over a month and a half ago, while I just recieved my court papers last week. Does this mean anything?

And thank you very much. I really appreciate your insight.

Your friend's statement pretty much left you hung out to dry.... the marijuana was closest to you and if it wasn't his.... well it must be yours!
What everyone knows is that it belongs to one of the two of you.
Did your friend receive any kind of punishment for the possession? If so, then you should have nothing to worry about since the court found it to be his.
Have you made any statements to the police about the marijuana? If you have not made any incriminating statements, then again, you should have nothing to worry about. Ownership will fall on the driver of the vehicle all day long.

The delay in paperwork being served to you makes me suspect that your friend cracked under pressure and squealed on you. If he provided new information then that would explain why they turned their attention toward you.

If you have nothing to hide, and if you have made no incriminating statements, then don't sweat it.
