Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Arrested for theft in CA

I was arrested for stealing a book ($80) from a university store. I'm an adult and 1st time offender.
I have no idea what I'm suppose to do, all I know is I have an upcoming court date.
What will be my charges? Will I need a lawyer? What do I do during my court?
