This sounds like an offense that would typically be listed as a felony. It could possibly be a wobbler that goes either way depending on the circumstances. You will find out when you appear in court what you are facing and you can direct all your concerns to your legal counsel.

They r trying to charge me with this. Is it a felony?? What should I expect I have no history of violence

Okay, if you are arrested do not admit to anything, confess to anything, or even give your version of the event.
In other words, be polite, cooperate with the arresting officers, give them your name, date of birth, address, and age. Then inform them, that you wish to speak with a lawyer.

No one ever talks themselves out of these nasty predicaments.
If you talk, you only dig a deeper hole for yourself.
If you have talked, too late, but the game isn't over.
Just stop talking.

You can start looking for a lawyer today.
If you can't afford a lawyer, ask the court to appoint one to represent you.
Also, start speaking to bail bonding agencies in your county.
They will know, if and when a warrant is issued for you.
They can tell you how much bail will cost you.
They can also make payment arrangements with you.

There are many kinds of assault under Tennessee assault law. The most basic form of assault, is simple assault. It is a class A misdemeanor. It is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

A more serious assault is aggravated assault. Aggravated assault is when you cause serious bodily injury to another person or when you use a deadly weapon during the alleged assault.

The punishment for aggravated assault depends on your intent at the time of the alleged act. For instance, if the assault was intentional, then you could be charged with a class C felony. The penalty, if convicted for this kind of assault is anywhere from 3 to 15 years in prison. This seems like what you are asking about.

If there was no specific intent to commit aggravated assault, but the assault was committed by your reckless (or indifferent) behavior, then the charge is considered a class D felony in Tennessee. A class D felony assault charge is punishable by 2 to 12 years in prison.
