I was with my friend drunk at (discount store) buying milk we walked passed the alcohol section and he said i should grab a bottle so i stuck it in my coat he went to purchase the milk and i was heading to the doors just before the doors there were two (discount store) workers waiting i walked passed them they said nothing then i saw a cop pull up to the door so i turned around and sneakily threw the bottle in the trash and walked out with my friend the ladies didnt stop me but the cop did right before i got in the car he asked what i was doing i said getting milk then he asked if i had anything i said no you can search me he then got my name and address then let me go and said he would check the cameras. I got home and they later showed up asking for me and said they found the bottle in the trash. I didnt talk to them personally. He later called leaving a message to call him back. Should i call him back? And could i be in trouble?

Yes you are in trouble. They clearly have evidence on the theft and it appears you will be charged. When times comes you are contacted by Police tell them nothing other than you want an Attorney.

Yes. You will apparently end up needing a lawyer & talk only to the lawyer.

Do not talk to the police officer for any reason. Be conveniently unavailable. You do not have to explain anything to anyone.
If the police get a warrant over this you won't likely go to jail. You would most likely be issued a citation to appear in court, at which time you can worry about getting a lawyer. Until then don't worry about it, and stop stealing.
