Auto Accident - Diminshed Value

My son's car was hit by a uhaul moving truck owned by an independent moving company. The insurance company paid the deductible on the car and is going to pay for the damage. How do I go about filing for diminshed value?

If his car was not a total loss and repairs are under $2,500 you cannot file for diminished value.
