I rent the top floor from the owner of a building and haven't paid my rent for four months due to economic reasons and I was hit recently by a car,

I have no past wages to be eligible for lost wages.

What are the consequences of being overdue four months and what is the time frame for action?

If I can borrow the money the last possible moment, what are the ramifications?

You know the ramifications.
You can be evicted.
You'll eventually receive a letter asking you to pay up or quit.
To evict you, however, the landlord will have to take you to court.
If you don't voluntarily leave (when asked), you'll be served with an eviction proceeding.
The court process takes about 6 to 8 weeks, maybe more.
If you come up with the money, you are usually allowed to cure your rent default.
