bad checks

I believe that California's bad check law can make you responsible to pay, in addition to the amount of the check, up to three times the amount on the check, not less than $100 and up to a maximum penalty of $1,500. This is in addition to criminal penalties that may be applicable. I believe that this is contained in Civil Code Section 1719.

FYI, the CA DA has set up a special Bad Check Program at http://da.co.la.ca.us/badcheck/default.htm to combat problems of bad checks.
