First off I'll apologize if this was posted in the wrong forum.

Ok so here's the run-down. I run a home based computer repair business here in Las Vegas. I do not require a business license as I don't live in the corporate area. <- Or at least that's what I read.

About two weeks ago I had a guy come to me wanting me to fix his computer computer for $15. Really cheap but I still took the job, thinking it'd be a very straightforward thing. Turned out the computer had a number of hardware problems, nonetheless I managed to get the system working without replacing any parts. The guy camed to pick it up, everything worked smoothly. He was happy. He paid me and left with the computer. The next day he started making claims about how the problems were back and that I didn't fix anything at all. I told him that the type of problems he was receiving can only be caused by the user. (He did have alot of various warez + porn sites in his favorites. Though I didn't mention any of that). Later that same day I went to the bank to make a deposit, when I came outside he was there waiting for me (weird, yeah). He asked me what I was going to do about the computer. I told him I had family over that day but I could check it out the next day. He suggested I just give him a refund and that he'd go find someone else. While I did spend over 5+ hours on this system because I had to find workarounds for alot of issues, I figured spending any more time with this guy wouldn't be worth it. It was just $15. I refunded him.

Note: I did mention them to him when he first picked up the computer. I had recommended he change the motherboard, RAM and dvd drive, and also add a case fan, he said he was too broke for any of that, and that the system seemed fined so he was fine with it as it is.

Then at night he texts me on the phone saying his internet stopped working and that I did something. Threatens me by saying he's going to bring me to court. (Or actually my dad, as I'm a minor.) The basic gist of my response was screw off.

I talked to some of my friends who are pretty familiar with the law. They all say this guy doesn't have a case. But today I received another text from him saying his lawyer has prepared a letter for me and is going to send it today or something.

What do you guys think? There's no receipts or contracts and whatever. And I do have the numbers of a couple of previous customers who have been very happy with my service.

1 - If you have a business that is not incorporated, you can be sued personally for stuff like this. If you do this for a living, it is something you should surely consider.

2 - For $15 I'd probably tell the guy to sue me. Chances are this nonsense will go away in time. If it were me, I might let him know that the public discussion in front of the judge and people in the courtroom (and recorder of the audio) will need to include a discussion about some specific porn sites that you remember the plaintiff appeared to surf and which may have installed maclicious software or items that may have still affected the system. My guess is that this person won't bother you afterwards. ;)

Good luck...
