my girlfriend is charged with 2nd degree assault and possession of a deadly weapon with intent to cause harm. shes bipolar and shes been off her meds for about 6 months due to no health insurance, during which ive watched her deteriorate due to her illness. shes been trying to get insurance and finally has, but its too late now because she already acted out. during one of her episodes she cut me with a knife and the neighbors called the cops. i do not want to press charges at all, and ive made this known to her public defender and the DA. there is a restraining order in effect, which they say will be dropped if she brings in proof that she is seeing a therapist and has a treatment plan for the illness. they also told me that she will not get any jail time, or probation, but im a little skeptical of that because of my experience with the justice system. given that she is back on her medication and seeing a therapist just as the court ordered, what do you think will be the outcome of this case? also, her lawyer told me that it is likely that the case will be dropped because i do not want to go forward as the victim, unless they subpoena me (which he said is not likely)

I suggest you speak with family counselor or a therapist. After you've done that, you'll have a better idea f how you can help yourself, and how that can help her.
