I am at the end of my patience with the handyman that we hired to remodel our home. He started back in April and told us it would take approx. 1 month to complete. Total cost was $32K and we have paid more than $23K and hardly anything has been done. We originally had a verbal contract that included timeframes for specific tasks and payments and then due to him breaking his word on these I had him sign a written contract outlining the milestones and dates for these and the actions I could take if he did not follow the contract.

He has already missed two deadlines and I have had nothing but problems from day one. I have invested too much money to let this go but I need to fire him and get someone who will get the job done.

I need to know what I need to do to get the majority of my money back so that I can pay another contractor to finish the work. I am in the process of getting quotes to finish the work but need to know what else I need to do.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. I can also send a copy of the contract that I had him sign.

BTW, I live in California if that makes any difference. Thanks again!

Anyone know what my next course of action should be? I have half a house done with minimal electrical and he has spent most of the money. He isn't showing up anymore either. Someone help! Thanks.

It looks like legal action is the only thing that will make this person either finish the job as contracted or return most of the money for the work non performed. Hire an attorney as soon as possible to have this situation rectified. Good luck to you!
