My daughter and three roommates each signed a lease to share a 2 bedroom apartment. According to her, the living conditions have become unbearable. One of the roommate's boyfriend has been living there unauthorized and actually pays her rent. My daughter's car has been vandalized, she can't study or use part of the apartment because of people living there who are not on the lease. She doesn't feel safe there anymore. She has been unable to get any cooperation from the other three in this situation and the apartment management refuses to do anything on her behalf. She's at the point where she needs to get out and break the lease if she has to. The question is, what can she do to legally get out of this agreement? She's desperate. Thank you for any help you can give us.

Your daughter is financially responsible for her share of the rent until the lease ends. In some cases, management will allow a tenant to sublet; find someone to take over their share of the lease. This sounds like her best option to avoid being sued which is what might happen should she simply leave owing her share of the rent until the lease concludes.
