I am in a one-year lease that will expire in May of 2009. The problem is, is my roommates and I have irreconcilable differences. The roommates also happen to be my wife's aunt, cousin, and grandmother. When the lease was signed, my wife's aunt paid the security deposit with a check. However, her name wasn't added to the rental agreement. I have spoken with the landlord and she is ok with me leaving, but she wants to have 2 more agreements signed by me and the roommate. the first one states that I will continue to pay my portion of the rent until the original agreement is completed, but I will no longer be on the premises. I am ok with that because the landlord has been great to me since day one. Also, no matter what disagreements my roommates and I have, I wouldn't just stick her with my portion of the rent because I wouldn't feel right as a human being to do that. the second contract/agreement states that the house will be solely in the roommates name and they will continue to pay their portion of the rent until the original contract is completed. Problem is, is I don't know if she will sign it. If she doesn't, then what will I do?
