I rented out my townhouse (which I rent) for a football weekend. The people confirmed they were coming and I turned down numerous other people who wanted to rent the townhouse. The week of the game, the people e-mailed me and said they would now only come if I lowered the agreed upon price even though we had this set since the summer. Can I file a small claims case or are my hands tied since I rent and do not own my townhouse?
Thanks

If they had not signed on to the terms of the fact that they can't cancel or late cancelation rules or penalties, it would be hard. If it was just their word of mouth, it would be hard to win especially because you are not an official renting business…..More so, if you are renting without a permit from the owner, you have no shot of winning. The owner might know and sue you, terminate lease and other bad stuff…. Just let it fly and make sure you take a substantial not refundable amount next time at least a week before.
