Bridesmaids dress rental

My sister went to a local dress shop and picked out her bridesmaids dresses. She did not sign a contract or pay any money down. The shop owner told her to have each bridesmaid come in to be measured. Upon each girl going in to be measured, the shop owner made a ticket in each girl's name with their sizes and the amount of the dress rental. The shop owner had each girl pay a deposit. My sister has cancelled her wedding six days before it was to take place and the shop owner has told my sister that she is responsible for the remainder of the dress rental on all of the dresses. Should my sister pay this since the tickets were made out to each individual and not my sister?

Somebody should pay for the dress rentals. It is not fair to stick it to the brides maids which it sounds like your sister wants to do. It is not their fault the wedding got cancelled. I would say your sister should pay it. Cancelling a wedding at the last minute is going to cost her and the groom quite a bit of $$.
