Broken Lease

I sin=gned a lease on 11/17/06 to start on 12/1/06. I gave a postdated (*12/1/06) 1st months rent and security deposit . I spoke to landlord today 11/15/06 and informed him I will not be able to move into the property due to a family emergency. He started yelling at med and told me to meet him 11/16/ to give a new check for $1100. that he can cash on 11/27. He showed up at my present home, called me and sid he is outside my shouse and to come out and bring check. He refused to give me a copy of lease on 11/17 and again tonight. What are my legal obligations? I never moved into the home and would not have till 12/1/06.
