I was recently burgalarized and police suspect, as do I, that it was done from the "inside". It happened while I was on vacay and I came home to an almost perfect apartment...minus an unlocked door and 10,000 worth of stolen goods(mostly jewelry).
Oddly, i had a considerate burglar...nothing broken, nothing rummaged through. They knew what they were after.
Currently, I have yet to hear from the manager(6 days and counting) and have left repeated messages(both in-person and via phone). The investigation has yet to receive a detective but is forthcoming. The police report states police suspicions of it being performed possibly by maintenance. My saving grace may be the police officer living above me who believes it may be someone who had a key. No sign of forcible entry amongst many other clues. All I want now is out of my newly resigned 12 month lease. I have 10 months left on it but I don't feel safe given obviuos reasons. I did send a certified letter today of my request to my apt. manager and I am meeting with the regional manager tomorrow. If the meeting does not go well, what are my legal rights to get me out of this place without paying monetary penalties?
